Hello, I'm Riley

I'm an applied scientist in machine learning. I started my career after grad school by building recommender systems for a video game company, then moved to Amazon Photos, specializing in modern computer vision tasks for their consumer image-management app. I later joined Meta Reality Labs Research (RL-R) as a research engineer in order to be closer to fundamental research groups, while balancing the opportunities for an eventual integration into product. There, my work focused on video-understanding for contextually-aware digital agents for eventual integration in mixed reality hardware.
My formal education was initially in physics, then in astrophysics and cosmology at San Francisco State University. Later I studied both computational and theoretical fusion plasma physics, obtaining my Master's at The University of Washington.
In my free time, I create and record music, try to work on a diverse set of personal coding projects here and there, and snowboard when the season is right (and bike when the season isn't).
